Sulco Chemicals Limited is part of a TEAP team. The purpose
is to provide mutual assistance in the form of trained and
equipped personnel to assist at chemical transportation emergencies
involving chemicals transported in Canada by participants
in the plan in order to protect and minimize the risk to people,
the environment and property.
The role
of the TEAP Coordinator upon notification of a transportation
emergency includes:
- Notify
the local police
- Notify
the local fire department
- Notify
the Emergency Response Contractor
- Notify
the Ministry of Environment
- Notify/dispatch
a Technical Advisor
- Perform
a communications centre function, act as liaison between
the site and/or Technical Advisor and resources including
information and support
- Recording
events as they occur
The role
of a TEAP Technical Advisor includes:
- Arrival
at the scene of the emergency within 6 hours of notification
in a safe manner
- Report
to the official in charge of the emergency
- Report
to the TEAP Support Team
- Provide
Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS's) on the chemicals involved,
in an advisory capacity
- Perform
a public relations and media relations function as a spokesperson
on behalf of the company
- Maintain
communications with the TEAP Coordinator
Transportation
Policy
Sulco
Chemicals Ltd. is committed to continuous improvement in safety
and the reduction of accidents. The purpose is to prevent
injury to people and damage to the environment during the
transportation cycle.
Sulco
Chemicals Limited will abide by the principles of Responsible
CareŽ. The transportation policy promotes risk reduction in
all aspects of the transportation of chemicals along all transportation
corridors from the source to destination.
Sulco
Chemicals Ltd. will:
- Have
written standards and procedures which govern all aspects
of transportation of chemicals including waste, over which
Sulco Chemicals Ltd. has control.
- Identify
and evaluate, on a regular basis, the hazards and associated
risks to people and to the environment, from the transportation
cycle.
- Work
actively, alone or through selected organizations, to assist
governments in developing public legislation, and regulations
governing transportation of chemicals.
- Have
an active program designed to continuously improve safety
and to prevent accidents during transportation of chemicals.
- Know
the laws and regulations governing all phases of transportation,
and meet or exceed them in letter and in spirit.
- Co-operate
with and assist the transportation industry in reducing
the risks associated with the carriage of chemicals.
- Have
an up-to-date and operational transportation emergency response
plan.
- Have
a program, consistent with the Canadian Chemical Producers
Association's communities right-to-know policy, which responds
to people potentially affected along transportation corridors.
