Environmental, Health and Safety Policy
Sulco Chemicals Limited is committed to providing a safe and healthy workplace. Sulco will comply with or exceed the requirements of all environmental and occupational health and safety legislation; to correct promptly any existing environmental and occupational health and safety issues; to continually improve and reduce emissions and injury; and to take proactive measures to avoid future incidents in a cost effective manner.
As a member of the Canadian Chemical Producers Association (CCPA), Sulco embraces the guiding principles of Responsible CareŇ, a set of initiatives to ensure safe handling of chemicals throughout the value chain and to deal with public concerns over chemicals and their impact on the world we live in. Sulco is committed to the global Responsible CareŇ requirement for reducing emissions and employee injury, as well as eliminating all product related incidents in manufacturing, storage, handling, transportation, and disposal. To achieve this goal Sulco is committed to:
- Operate our facility with respect and care for the environment and the health and safety of our employees.
- Identify, assess and manage environmental, health and safety hazards associated with all activities.
- Taking all reasonable precautions to protect the health and safety of our employees, contractors, customers and the community.
- Continual evaluation of the risk of our operations and the impact upon the community, neighbours, and the environment.
- Protect our employees from exposure to hazardous chemicals during transfer operations.
- Report and review all incidents and accidents to appropriate authorities and the public.
- Assess environmental, health and safety issues during the design phase of all new facilities, processes, equipment, and procedures; and terminate any activity that cannot be carried out safely.
- Ensure that all employees, supervisors, managers and contractors adhere to all environmental, health and safety regulations, standards, policies and procedures.
- Educate, train, and motivate our employees to ensure understanding of their rights, duties and obligations concerning their health and safety and the environment.
- Sulco commits to continually advance sustainable development. This consists of a set of policies and practices aimed at achieving economic, environmental, and societal progress that benefits future generations without compromising the needs of the present generation.
Sulco Management will review the Environmental, Health and Safety Management System annually to ensure continuing suitability, adequacy, and compliance with environmental, and health and safety performance targets. Management will address the need for changes as new processes, procedures, and knowledge are introduced; and will identify opportunities to improve all facets of our operation.
Implementation and maintenance of the Environmental, Health and Safety Policy is done through employee training and compliance with ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Standards. Understanding of the policy by employees is monitored through regular internal audits.
