Canada Colors/Sulco has successfully completed CCPA’s
Phase 3 Re-verification of Responsible Care® in November
2003. At the time of the release of the final report, Canada
Colors/Sulco was one of 11 companies to reach this milestone,
out of 75 member companies in Canada. Canada Colors remains
to be the only chemical distributor to be verified by Responsible
Care®.
As in any verification, it is a learning process and we
hope for comments and suggestions to help us improve. The
CCPA verifiers developed a list of ‘Findings Requiring
Action’ during their visit, which included Process
Safety Management, development and updates to our Worst
Case Scenarios, the communication of the Worst Case Scenarios
to our neighbours, and the testing of Emergency Responders.
The verifiers also noticed significant improvements in
the extent of the company’s active governance and
focus of the ‘ethic’ and deemed Canada Colors/Sulco
a ‘self-healing’ company. Some Best Practices
identified by the verification team are the computerized
remote tank level monitoring system, the management system
used to monitor movement of chemicals related to possible
drug or weapon use, the company’s excellent Emergency
Response Manual, and the construction of a building surrounding
Sulco’s oleum tanks thus reducing their Worst Case
Scenario.
It is with our continual hard work, dedication and commitment
to the Responsible Care® Codes of Practice and ethic
that Canada Colors/Sulco continues to be a leader in the
Canadian chemical industry.
Respectfully submitted,
Christel Hollinger
